Zita Elizabeth Brummel

August 23, 1933 — November 22, 2021

Mrs. Zita E. Brummel was born on August 23, 1933 in Syracuse, Kansas.

She was born to James and Barbara Grilliot. Zita grew up in Syracuse with her 2 sisters and 3 brothers. After high school graduation she entered Sacred Heart · convent in Wichita, Kansas in 1951, choosing the name Sister Janelle. She went on to attain her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. During these years she touched the lives of many fortunate children in the area around Wichita and northern Oklahoma and truly found her passion and calling.  In 1978, she chose to leave the convent, but continued her career as a religious educator and became principal at Cure of Ars School in Leawood, Kansas.

In 1982, Zita married the love of her life, Ken Brummel. They resided in ·Overland Park for nearly forty years. She embraced his four children as if her own. Also, she welcomed the opportunity to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. They traveled extensively during their retirement, including many mission trips to Central and South America.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Kenneth Brummel in January of this year, her parents, James and Barbara Grilliot, her siblings; James Grilliot, Ann Smith, Mary Gerard, and Joseph Grilliot.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas Grilliot, four children: Barb (Casey) Cassias, Ed Brummel, Robert (Joyce) Brummel, and Jim (Elizabeth) Brummel, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many, many (about 40) loving Grilliot family nieces and nephews.
