George Planchon

May 28, 1928 — January 1, 2022

Prairie Village, Kansas

George Albert Planchon of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the age of 93.  Our beloved Dad died peacefully at Advent Health Medical Center with his family by his side.

George was born in Sterling, Connecticut on May 18, 1928, to father David Planchon and mother Dorothy Planchon.  The oldest of 5 children, George early on developed a passion for working with his hands.  His work ethic and love of his country lead to his enlistment in the United States Navy during World War II and he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal.

Following his discharge, George used the G.I. Bill benefits to enroll in an aircraft mechanics school in Kansas City.  In addition to going to school, George worked as a mechanic at a gas station, where he met the love of his life Joan Jagodnigg.  They married September 11, 1949 and were blessed with two boys, James and Steven.  After a stint as an aircraft technician at Olathe Naval Air Station, George embarked on an extended civil service career with the Federal Aviation Administration.  In retirement he served the Lord as a long time elder of his church and pursued his passion for woodworking.

George was a Christian man of great moral fiber, always ready to offer his time and resources to someone in need.  He was a handyman supreme and a lover of aviation.  George’s dry wit wrought many smiles and lifted many hearts.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan Planchon, his brother Paul Planchon, and sister Jeanne Rovero.  He is survived by his sisters Marguerite Bourgeois and Jacklyn Maclosky, his children James Planchon, James’ wife Pamela and Steven Planchon; grandchildren David Planchon, Jenelle Collins, and Mallory Laing; and great grandchildren Izabella Planchon, Lilliane Planchon, Lylah Planchon, Brooklyn Laing, Emmie Laing, Olivia Laing, and Caleb Collins.
