Ms. Ruth Chinn

February 22, 1912 — July 16, 2014

Ruth Mann Chinn, 102, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on July 16, 2014 in her home.
Ruth was born February 22, 1912 to Edward and Maude Hamilton of  Topsey, MO.  Ruth lived in Trenton until she married Glenn Mann, to whom she was married 33 years.  They had two children, William E. Mann and Dixie Lou Mann, both who preceded her in death.  She is survived by three grandchildren, Glenn Mann, Dixie Hamel, and Barbara Mann, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Arlie Gentry.
Ruth’s life was spent sharing her talents with others.  Ruth and her late husband, Chris Chinn, were accomplished dancers, and danced for years at the senior dances.  Ruth was also an artist and helped organize the Wyandotte Art Association of KCK. Ruth was a seamstress and was still making and selling Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls until her late 90’s. She was a member of Unity Temple on the Plaza and taught art classes there. Ruth also spent 10 years as an active member of the NARVE Railroad Club. Ruth served on the Mental Health Board at KU Med Center for three years and was a member of the Women’s Optimists Club in Amourdale, KS. Ruth managed several different recreation centers in KCK for a total of 27 years. She undoubtedly touched many lives with the thousands of kids who came into her centers. She loved sharing stories of when she was a young girl and remembered them with unbelievable clarity.  Many will miss the smile and laugh that she shared with everyone she met. Her family is thankful that God gave Ruth her many talents, a strong body, and a great mind for 102 years.  May she rest in peace.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, 1:00 PM, at Maple Hill Cemetery, 3300 Shawnee Drive, KCK.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Amourdale Renewal Association, 730 Osage Ave, Kansas City, KS 66105.
