Robert Weir

July 30, 1925 — April 4, 2015

Bob was born in Hull, Illinois, July 30, 1925 to George and Fayetta (Starks) Weir. Upon graduating from Hull High School in 1943, he entered the Naval Flight Program during World War II and received his Gold Wings and commission as a Naval Aviator. He was assigned to the Ready Reserve and in 1967, was transferred to the Retired Reserve credited with 23 years of service.
Inheriting an interest in art from his mother, Bob came to Kansas City to attend the Kansas City Art Institute. There he met Norma Lou McKee from Deer Lodge, Montana whom he affectionately nicknamed “Maggie”, and they were married at her home in September 1948.
Following graduation with a Degree in Fine Arts in 1951, he began his lifelong career with the Kansas City Poster Display Company as an artist and display designer. Over the next 41 years, he worked in sales, production and management, and retired as owner in 1992. He served on the Board of Directors and as Chairman in 1987 of Screen Printing Association International, was on The Screen Printing Technical Foundation and the International Advisory Council for printing education at Pittsburg State University. He was an active member of Kansas City Rotary Club 13 since 1969, serving as President from 1989-90 and as the trustee of The Rotary Youth Camp. He was also a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Bob continued his art involvement and was as an active member of The Greater Kansas City Art Association, claiming to not being in art as a job, he delighted in the response he got for his “nostalgic” water colors and one of a kind greeting cards to family and friends on various occasions.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maggie; his grandson, Andrew and his close companion for several years, Ann O’Dell.
He is survived by his 5 children, Cindy Weir Smith, Lorrie Miles (Richard), Lisa Pauley (Bob), Matt Weir (Chris) and Julie Hiers (Mark); 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
His visitation will be 6-8pm, Thursday, April 9th at Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave. His Funeral Mass will be 11am, Friday, April 10th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 W. 103rd Street, Overland Park, KS 66214. In lieu of flowers, family has suggested memorial contributions to Rotary Club Youth Camp, 22310 NE Colbern Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
