Mr. Robert Cleary

March 27, 1926 — March 11, 2013

Robert L. (Bob) Cleary passed away in the early hours of March 11, 2013 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa. He was a loving and treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob was born in Fort Towson, Okla. to William Cleary and Myrtle Moon Cleary. He was the youngest of four children. After his parents passed away, he grew up at a Baptist orphanage in Texarkana, Ark. He joined the Navy in July of 1943 and served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he became a radio engineer, and he worked at several radio stations before joining WHB in 1956. He retired from KUDL WHB in 1991. After retiring, he became the head marshal at Heritage Park Golf Course, and he enjoyed playing golf with his friends.
On March 17th, 1973, he married the love of his life, Pattie Lou Kelly. They traveled the world together, visiting exotic locales including the Caribbean, Europe, Russia and China.
He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and Chiefs fan, and he loved building and tinkering in his workshop.
He is survived by his wife Pattie Lou; sister Matilda Black; children Karen Agee, Melissa Cavanaugh, and John Kelly; grandchildren Natalie, Alexandra, Kelly-Anne, and Bryan; and great-grandchildren Michael and Lillia. The children from his first marriage are Sherri Smith, Karen Hardgrave, Gary Cleary, and Nancy Mooney; grandchildren Aaron, Shannon, Angela, Monica, Shane and Randi; and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Lakeview Village and Crossroads Hospice staff for all their wonderful support and care. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., with the Service to follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at Newcomers at 8201 Metcalf, followed by interment at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
