Richard Raymond Gibbs 66, passed away on December 29, 2011 in Tucson, AZ in an automobile accident. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10, 2011 at Newcomer's Overland Park, Chapel located at 8201 Metcalf. The Rosary will be said at 6p.m. with visitation until 8p.m. The Funeral will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church Wednesday, January 11th at 11am. He will be buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Richard was born December 14, 1945 in Troy, Ohio to his parents Marie and Oscar Jackson (O.J.) Gibbs. He attended grade school at Saint Peter's in Kansas City, KS, and he graduated from Bishop Ward High School. He was a computer programmer for Wilcox Electric in Independence, MO He started a computer consulting company named, Gibfam, Inc. where he contracted with many companies across the United States working on a variety of projects. Richard was a member of the Pima County, Mounted Posse. He also enjoyed working with the Marine's toys for Tots campaign over the holidays.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Jackson, three sisters, Jeanne Gibbs, Joan Hess, Janet McCarty-Hinz and one brother Jack Gibbs. He leaves behind his Mother, Marie McCarty, a brother, Jim McCarty (Lydia Jones) and a sister, Susan Bearce (Chuck), his life- partner, Janet Hamilton, Tucson, AZ. Janet Hamilton's children and grandchildren who loved him very much and thought of him as family He has many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who survive him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor.
