Robert Reid Parker, 96 passed away on September 13, 2013 in Cutler Bay, Florida. Reid was born on September 23, 1916 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri to Robert Wallace and Emma Jane (McArthur) Parker
Reid grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Northeast High School. After high school he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where he received a degree in chemical engineering in 1936 at the age of 19. After attending graduate school at the University of Missouri at Rolla he began work for Phillips Petroleum Company where he worked for 44 years and retired as the refinery plant manager in Kansas City, Kansas in 1982.
Reid married Rosalee Elizabeth Bodenhamer in 1942. They were happily married for 68 years. They were lifelong members of the Prairie Baptist Church. Reid sang in the church choir for many years. He was an endless baseball coach and an assistant scoutmaster for all of his three son's teams and troops. He was a devoted family man and was always there for his children and grandchildren. He loved them dearly and attended all their recitals, school events, graduations and weddings. He had many friends and was loved by many. He and Rosalee enjoyed bridge, and square dancing. They belonged to Brookridge Country Club and were avid golfers. They traveled extensively throughout the world. They lived in Prairie Village, Kansas and Naples, Florida. While in Naples he volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. Most recently, Reid lived in South Florida where he enjoyed the sunshine.
Reid was preceded in death by his wife Rosalee Elizabeth Parker, sister Mary Helen Powell, and son Richard William Parker.
He is survived by his sons Robert (Ann) Parker of San Antonio, Texas and Bruce (Sandra) Parker of Coral Gables, Florida and his grandchildren Marjorie Parker (Ryan) David, Warren Reid Parker, Grant Edward Parker, Lacey Elizabeth Parker, Ryan William Parker, Robert Richard (Stacy) Parker, Charles Andrew Parker, Elizabeth Marie Parker, Carline Quinn Parish and his great grandchildren Wyatt and Elise David, and Elliot and Brynn Parish.
A visitation will be held on September 19 at 6:30 pm at D.W. Newcomers 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Shawnee Mission, KS 66204. A funeral service will be held on September 20 at 10:30 at the Prairie Baptist Church located at 7416 Roe Ave Prairie Village, KS 66208. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
