Raymond Amoury, M.D.

Dr. Raymond A. Amoury, 86), Leawood, KS, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 29 at Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.  The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 30, at Church of St. Ann, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.  Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas or Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Dr. Amoury was born on Staten Island, NY on February 9th, 1928.  At 17 he enlisted in The U.S. Army and served in the Philippines.  After his tour he earned his undergraduate degree at Wagner College in Staten Island. He earned his M.D. from the College of Medicine, State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center and completed residencies in general, thoracic and pediatric surgery at the combined Bellevue/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center Program and at Babies Hospital in New York City.
In 1968, he moved with his wife and five children to the Kansas City area to begin his nearly 30-year tenure as Surgeon-in-Chief at the world renowned Children’s Mercy Hospital.  He will be remembered as a uniquely loving, warm and genuine family member, colleague and member of the community who will be truly missed. Dr. Amoury was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Amoury, son Peter Anthony Amoury and grandson Joseph Christopher Amoury.  He is survived by his daughters Mary and Jane Amoury of Leawood, KS, Anne Amoury of Reisterstown, MD, son Gerard Amoury of Springfield, VA.  He also is survived by his grandchildren Ahmed and Mohamed Benarous, Michael Amoury and Lauren, Audrey and Juliana Winters as well as his great grandchildren Bashir and Taha Benarous and Ali and Hafsa Benarous.  Arrangements:  Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.
