Ray Walkup

January 26, 1924 — November 5, 2012

Ray T. Walkup, 88, of Overland Park, died November 5, 2012 at home.
He was born in Tarkio, MO and had lived in the St. Joseph and Kansas City area most of his life. He attended McCalister College, St. Paul, MN. He served in WWII as a B17 pilot in the U.S. Air Corps, and received the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 40 years of service as a district engineer. He was a member and Elder of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, KS. He was a member of the International Lions Club and Sertoma International. He was also a member of the American Right or Way Association and the Midwestern Society of Telephone Engineers. He was a member of the Commemorative Air Force and belonged to the Grand Lodge of Masons.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Olive, three daughters, Cheryl (Les) Matthews of Santa Fe, NM, Joy Tomasino of San Ramon, CA, and Judy (Roger) Jantzen of Kaiser, MO, two grandchildren, Ben (Katrina) Matthews of Santa Fe, NM, and Ian Tomasino of Monterey, CA, a Brother, Donald (Betty) Walkup of St. Joseph, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by a son, David Ray Walkup and a sister, Wanda Engel.
A private Memorial Service will be held this Saturday at Southminster Presbyterian Church. The family suggests contributions to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Avenue, Prairie Village, KS 66204 or Grace Hospice, 9233 Ward Pkwy # 201 Kansas City, MO 64114.
