Orson A. Rau, 91, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 6422 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS; burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

Orson was born May 31, 1920 in Arlington Heights, IL to George John and Nellie Fairchild Rau. Orson was the youngest of three children. He graduated from a public high school in Arlington Heights, IL. Orson attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL and later joined the Navy in 1940. After finishing his Navy flight training, he voluntarily joined the U.S. Marines, after which he flew R4D's during WWII (VMR-353) in the Central Pacific USMCR. Orson married Glenna Marie Bond Dec. 25, 1942 in San Diego, CA. After WWII, Orson was a co-pilot and captain for TWA from 1945-1980. He loved being a pilot, especially flying the 4649 Constellations and then the 727's. He was well-respected by his fellow pilots, both in the military and at TWA, for his attention to detail. Orson was very active at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Glenna Rau; three children: Diana (Dean) Supple, Carl (Carol) Rau, and Charles (Debbie) Rau; 5 grandchildren: Davin and Jason Supple, Carla Roberts, Katie and Kristen Rau; two great grandchildren: Faith and Connor Steiner; and one great-grandchild to be born in September.
