NELLIE K. ROBB

June 30, 1915 – November 11, 2011
Nellie Katherine Robb, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Leawood, where she had been a resident since 2007. Memorial services will be held at Old Mission United Methodist Church, Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Road in Fairway, Kansas at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Nellie Peek was born in northwest Arkansas, in the town of Decatur, on June 30, 1915. She grew up on a fruit farm three miles from the nearest town where she attended school. As a high school student she was active in basketball and was on the "all-star team." She attended college at Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas, receiving a degree in education. Nellie then returned to her home-town school to teach history and home economics and coach basketball until she married Leroy Robb, her beloved husband of 68 years. The couple moved first to Kansas City, then Mission, Kansas, where she raised two sons, Bruce and Kenneth. She was active in cub scouting as a den mother, parent-teacher organizations, and always very involved in church work. She and her husband were members of Old Mission United Methodist for over fifty years, where Nellie was most active in the United Methodist Women. Nellie and her husband traveled to many places in the world together during their retirement years. She particularly enjoyed the monthly gatherings with her family.

Nellie was a social person, cooking large, delicious meals for company, playing cards with friends regularly, being active in garden club in her neighborhood, and always volunteering at church. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband Leroy, her parents, two sisters, and a brother. She is survived by her sons Bruce and wife Lois of Overland Park, Kansas and Kenneth and wife Ann of Galena, Illinois, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
