Nellie M. Coons, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Assn.
Nellie was born and raised in Edna, KS and later moved to Wichita where she worked for Beech Aircraft. There she met her soon to be husband, Floyd A. Coons. Nellie spent twenty years working for Wichita Ice & Cold Storage as their bookkeeper/accountant. She was an active member of the Wichita Bible Church. Nellie moved to Overland Park, KS in the late 1980's. She was an active and competitive Bridge player, and was a member of the Leawood United Methodist Church. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of almost forty years, Floyd A. Coons; two sisters and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa "Terry" (Bill) Grammer; a sister, Jean (Gary) Latimer; three grandchildren: Heather Haas and her husband John Couture, Amy Haas, Katy (Bill) Fields; a step grandchild, Wesley (Jennifer) Grammer; and three great grandchildren.
