Maxie Walling, Jr.

June 27, 1929 — November 5, 2015

Maxie Walling, of Shawnee, Kansas, died November 5, 2015 at KU Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born June 27, 1929 in Sherman Texas.  Mr. Walling was raised on a farm and learned the value of hard and honest work.  He retired in 1992 after working for Continental Insurance Company for 40 years in Corpus Christi, San Antonio and the Dallas/Ft Worth area.  He is survived by his wife, Mary (Beth) of 65 years.

He was an active church member his entire life, most recently at Shawnee Community Christian Church.  He enjoyed traveling around the globe, liked keeping up with the stock market and financial news, and was an avid sports fan.  Maxie enjoyed live-stage theater productions and especially the Chestnut Fine Arts Center in Olathe.

Maxie will be remembered for his calm, peaceful, gentle spirit and great sense of humor.  A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he was truly an extraordinary man who will be greatly missed.

Maxie is preceded in death by his parents, Maxie and Ollie Walling and a brother, Roy Ted Walling.

In addition to his wife, Maxie is survived by four children: Carolyn Reedy and her husband, Mike; Gary Walling and his wife Linda; Dale Walling and his wife Linda, and Mary Fry and her husband Andy.  There are 8 grandchildren: Walter (wife Angie), Laura (husband Ches), Kristen, Ryan, Max (wife Kristina), Sam, Jared, Lindsey; and five great grandchildren: Asher, Amelie, Asa, Jennifer, Jordan and a set of twins on the way!

A Celebration of Life will be held at Shawnee Community Christian Church on November 27, 2015 at 10 AM.
