Mary R. Black, 75, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born July 14, 1938, in Bolivar, MO, to Samuel and Ellen Stevens. She was a homemaker raising 5 children who served her family tirelessly for years. She also worked part-time and retired from Sears. She attended Heartland Community Church and enjoyed her time with her small group.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles Dean Black; daughter, Kathryn Thomerson; son-in-law, Jim Walker, Jr.; two sisters, Naida Davis and Willeta Barger; and brother, Arthur Lee Stevens.
Mary is survived by her children, Marcia (Randy) Nemeth, of Shawnee, KS, Nancy (John) Barnes, of Tonganoxie, KS, Janet (Jerry) Lumby, of Lee's Summit, MO, and Mike (Margaret Ann) Black, of Kearney, MO; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Billie Sam Stevens; and sister, Lois Rodgers.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. An inurnment will follow at the Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens, Shawnee, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Overland Park Chapel.
