Irene Ross, 99, died July 10 at Evergreen Community, Olathe, Ks.
Irene was born May 24, 1918 to William and Gertrude Diel Straub in Pleasant Green, Mo.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Aline, Winnie,  Catherine(nicknamed Pete), Irene’s twin Lorene, her brothers Chris and Joe, her beloved husband Hurshal, and her dearly loved daughter-in-law Cathy, Mark's wife,

Irene married Hurshal L. Ross January 28, 1939.  They lived in Marshall, Slater, Pilot Grove, and Sedalia, Missouri, before settling in Roeland Park.  Irene was a staunch Catholic, a wonderful cook and full time-homemaker, raising Larry, Ron and Mark.  Her family was her life, and she was loved dearly..  Irene and Hurshal were active in the Maple Hill Optimists, and they loved to dance.  After Hurshal retired they moved to Sunrise Beach at the Lake of the Ozarks;  they were avid fishermen.  They "snow-birded" near Harlingen, Texas, for many years.  She always said "56 years of marriage to Hurshal was not enough".

Irene is survived by her 3 sons and their families:  Larry and Diane Ross, Robin and Gene Ray, DeAnna Basler, and Tracy and Mike Manning.  James Ronald Ross, Anne and Marcus Stinett, and Craig Ross.  Mark and Dana Ross, Chad and Lindsey Ross, and Heather and Kurt Weber.  She also leaves 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.  Irene was an exceptionally kind woman, always positive and cheerful, fiercely independent, and remarkably witty.  She will always be in the hearts and minds of her beloved family.

Her family is deeply grateful for the excellent care given and deep compassion shown to Irene by so many exceptional staff members at the Evergreen Community of Johnson County, and later by members of Hospice.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 14th at the Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., O.P., Ks., following the Rosary, a service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and a celebration of Irene’s life.   In lieu of flowers friends may wish to remember and honor Irene with a memorial contribution to the Evergreen Community of Johnson County, Olathe, Ks.  66051, or to a charity of your choice.
