Kathy A. Reilly, 60, Olathe, KS, passed away June 22, 2013, surrounded by family.
She was born April 13, 1953, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Donald B. and Eileen M. (Austin) Whitmore. She moved with her family to Roeland Park, KS, in 1965. Kathy attended St. Agnes Catholic Elementary School and Bishop Miege High School, where she was a national honor society member, class secretary and student council secretary.
After high school, Kathy attended Benedictine College and later graduated in 1975 from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor's degree in social work.
Kathy married Tim Reilly, her high school and life sweetheart, on Jan. 4, 1974.
Kathy had a lifelong passion for helping others, especially children. She most recently was adoption specialist for KVC Health Systems, Olathe. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church and spent many years since high school and college volunteering at hospitals, nursing homes and non-profit organizations.
Kathy enjoyed reading, traveling, camping at the lake, cooking, shopping for antiques and spending quality time with her beloved family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband Tim, five children: Tina (Shannon) Dougherty, Olathe; Cristy Nunn, Olathe; Kelly Reilly, Shawnee; Patrick (Erin) Reilly, Overland Park, KS; Katie Reilly, Gardner, KS; brother, Michael J. (Sherry) Whitmore, Mission; five grandchildren: Shannon, Amber and Kaitlyn Dougherty, and Reilly and Marlee Showalter; great-grandson, Tysen, and extended Reilly and Whitmore families.
In lieu of flowers, Kathy suggested memorial contributions to KVC Health Systems, Hospice of Olathe Medical Center or Johnson County Parks and Recreation Special Olympics.
A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 900 S. Honeysuckle Drive, Olathe, KS. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 28, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.
