Joseph Anthony Saragusa 95 years young, entered into eternal life peacefully surrounded by his family on January 21, 2021. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Sebastian “Barney" Saragusa and Angelina Ventura Saragusa. He was the beloved husband of Helen for 74 years, until her passing last September. He was the dear father of Kathy (Allan) Flentie, Overland Park; Sandy (Greg) Crable, Olathe; David (deceased,) and Gary, Olathe; fun and loving grandfather of Corbin and Evan (Michelle) Crable, Olathe; Candace Saragusa, Nick Flentie, Manhattan, KS; Elizabeth (Jeff) Snodgrass, Shawnee; Ashley (Jason) Lange, Shawnee; Great Grandpa to Cora and Hunter Snodgrass, Shawnee; step grandfather to Jennifer (Brian) Haynes, Andrew Lane, Olathe and step great grandpa to Emily and Will Haynes, Lawrence; brother to Jim (Suzi) Saragusa, Topeka; Rose (Don, deceased) Oswald, Basehor; Frances (John, deceased) Billaci, Kansas City, Kansas; Theresa (Tom) Ramirez, Kansas City, Kansas, sister-in-law Mary Lue Saragusa, Blue Springs; nephew of Nick Ventura and Rose Martincich, Overland Park, uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and so many cousins. He was predeceased by his loving parents, and his beloved brothers Nick, Phil “Cotton", and George Saragusa.
Joe served his country with honor in the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS West Virginia as a machine gunner in the South Pacific. He returned home and worked at Union Pacific and retired after 32 years from TWA.
Due to coronavirus, there will be a private gravesite service and cemetery burial with military honors.
