Mr. John Willard Claflin

John "Jack" Willard Claflin, age 92, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was born in Orange, New Jersey on February 8, 1921. Jack worked for Trans World Airlines for 41 years in the Transportation and Sales/Marketing Divisions. He was Regional Director of Cargo Sales and Service in both New York and Chicago, moving to Kansas City from Indianapolis in 1970. He retired in 1983 and became a consultant to various cargo transportation companies in the Kansas City area. Jack joined the Army Air Corp in January 1942. He served in WWII for four years in the China, Burma, India theater. He was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Force in December 1945. He was an ordained elder in Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. He was member of the 14th Air Force Association, the CBI Veterans Association, past Director of the Kansas City International Trade Club, a member of the Kansas City Air Cargo Association and World Trade Clubs of New York and Indianapolis. He also served on the State of Kansas Economic Development Council. He loved to golf and played courses all over the world.

He is survived by daughters Betsy Martin of Peculiar, MO and Jamie (Ty) Claflin-Martin of Paola, KS; son Scott (Carol) Claflin of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Florence Claflin, his sister Doris Teague, his wife Dolores "Dee" Claflin and his son Ronald Claflin.

A private memorial service will be held in the coming weeks. Because of Jack's love of animals and his passion for humane treatment of animals, in lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be sent to Wayside Waifs, P.O.
