Mr. John Fahrlander

John E. Fahrlander, 87 of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away peacefully June 6, 2013 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas. Memorial services and a reception will be held Monday, June 10, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd Prairie Village, KS 66208. John was born on March 6, 1926 in Brule, Nebraska, to Edwin H. and Edith E. (Franz) Fahrlander. He attended and graduated from Brule High School in 1943. After serving aboard the USS Savo Island CVE78 in World War II, John graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). His entire career was spent as a manufacturer's representative with Benson Engineering Company based in Dallas, Texas. In retirement, he could often be found in his workshop turning wood, supervising projects with grandchildren, or making repairs to a neighbor's lawn mower. An avid traveler, he recently spent three weeks touring France with his daughter. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fahrlander of Overland Park, Kansas. son, Mike Fahrlander and his wife, Cynthia Fahrlander of Overland Park, Kansas, daughter, Kimberly Alexander of Austin, Texas, along with five grand children, Audrey and Emerson Alexander of Austin, Texas, Emma and Adelyn Fahrlander of Overland Park and Edith Showalter of Kansas City, Kansas. John was preceded in death by daughter, Amy Showalter of Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
