Jean Schulte

Jean Hedrix Schulte, 86, LtCmdr. US Navy (Ret.), Mission KS, passed away at his home November 8th. He was born June 21, 1926 in Marysville KS to Joseph and Gladys Schulte. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy. After his enlistment, he was accepted to the United States Naval Academy where he graduated in 1953. While stationed in New Orleans, he met and married Joan Theresa O'Neill in 1960. They were married 45 years until her passing in 2006. After his retirement from the Navy in 1971, he pursued a career as a CPA, working for Sedgwick County, the State of Kansas, and finally for Shawnee County, retiring again in 1991. For 27 years, their home was Topeka, KS. He and Joan moved to Kansas City in 2003, and for the last six years, he lived at Mission Springs in Mission, KS. He leaves to cherish and honor his memory three children, Cathy (Randy) McIntosh, Karl (Chris) Schulte, John (Emily) Schulte, and eight grandchildren. A daughter, Theresa, preceded him in death in 1965. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 13th, 6-8 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Nov.14th, 1:00 PM, St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 1310 Carolina Street Marysville, KS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Odyssey Hospice, 8735 Rosehill Road Lenexa, KS 66215. We would like to thank Odyssey Hospice, who took such great care of our Dad in his final days. He was an incredible example of what a man, husband, and father should be. Sweet and loving until the end, Dad always had a smile and kind word for everyone and will be remembered as a true gentle man.
