Janice Lydia Munger
Janice Lydia Munger, 93, passed away on October 3, 2019. Jan was born August 4, 1926 in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Jeanette Schroeder. She graduated from high school in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and earned a degree in Home Economics-Applied Art from Iowa State University in 1948. During college she met her loving husband, Max Munger. They were married in 1948. She and Max spent most of their years in the Kansas City area and raised three children. She retired from a long career with Shawnee Mission School District. Once retired, she and Max spent time traveling and sailing. They were members of the Perry Yacht Club for many years and spent as much time as possible at the lake on their boat. After Max's death in 1992, Jan traveled and spent time visiting family and friends. She was active in many different organizations throughout the years and was president of the Women's City Club from 2004-2009.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a kind, caring and thoughtful person and enjoyed life. She had an unlimited supply of warmth to give. To Jan there were no strangers, just friends waiting to be made.
She is predeceased by her husband, Max Munger, parents, Henry and Jeanette Schroeder, and sister, Jane Jepson. Surviving are her daughter Andrea Munger of Overland Park, KS; son Ted Munger and his wife, Janet, of Dallas, TX, son Ray Munger and his wife, Ruth, of Seattle, WA; sister Joan Ellis and her husband, Dick, of Sedona, AZ one grandchild Kris Munger of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren: Luka and Jude Munger of Dallas, TX.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the Fireside Room at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Avenue, Overland Park, KS. The Rev. Laurie Anderson will officiate. There will be a reception following the service.
Jan was an avid reader throughout life and active in many book clubs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Johnson County Library Foundation, which directly funds Johnson County Library programs, services, and the growth of the collection.
