Harold M. (Jack) Baty, age 89, of Olathe, KS went to join his beloved wife, Irene Jo on Friday, February 27, 2009 following a brief illness. Visitation will be from 10-12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 4th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Graveside services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS.
Jack was born on September 24, 1919 in Parsons, Kansas to Don Baty and Florence McHugh Baty. Jack flew with the 509th Heavy Bombardment Wing of the 20th, United States Air Force. He was one of the last survivors of the group that flew the atomic mission over Japan that ended the war. He was a past commander and Life Member of VFW Post 2993, Olathe, Kansas He is survived by his sister, Maxine Fagerberg of Tucson, Arizona; his sister-in-law, Margaret Lindsay of Lewiston, Idaho; stepson, William Goodwin and wife, Carol; sons, James Baty and his wife Melody and Steven Baty and his wife, Susan. He leaves behind ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
