Mr. G. Hamilton, Jr.

G. Kenneth Hamilton Jr. passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013, at the Sweet Life in Overland Park where he had resided for the past three years. G. Kenneth Hamilton Jr., better known as "Kenny," was born in Kansas City, Missouri, March 9, 1920. He attended WC Bryant School, Southwest High School, and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1941. While attending school he lettered in football, basketball and track, and received "All City" in football. He was also the Missouri State Champion in the 100 yard dash in track.
He attended Kansas University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was on the track team for two years. He graduated in 1941 and soon entered the US Army Air Corp where he received his wings in 1942. He served three years in the "Training Command" and obtained the rank of Captain.
Kenny married Teresa Comley in Wichita, Kansas, July 9, 1942, and they have two sons, George Kenneth Hamilton III and William Comley Hamilton. Kenny and Teresa resided in both Wichita and McPherson, Kansas, until 1953 when they returned to Kansas City and he joined his father and mother in Hamilton Food Brokerage, Co. Upon the passing of his father, Kenny took over the company until selling out in 1973. In 1978 he joined forces with his son, Ken III, and two other partners to form Metro-Plex Information Systems. In 1987 the company was sold and he retired to enjoy golf and other activities at Indian Hills Country Club. His claim to fame in golf was shooting his age at 75 (in a tournament) and shooting a 77 at the age of 81.
Kenny was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Teresa "Teddy" Hamilton. He is survived by his sons, Ken Hamilton III and his wife LaVonda; William Hamilton and his wife Virginia; a granddaughter, Dana Newsom and her husband Dan; and a great-grandson, Logan Newsom.
A private service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church where he had been a member since 1968. Memorial contributions may be made to St Andrews Episcopal Church, KU Williams Fund, or to a charity of choice.
