Mr. Fred Arko

April 25, 1915 — May 22, 2007

Fred Cecil Arko of Prairie Village, Kansas was 92 years old when he passed away at his home. He was a beloved father, husband and friend. He loved to tell stories and share wisdom and fun.
Fred was born April 25, 1915 in Northern Minnesota on the Iron Range. He played football in High School and at Virginia Junior College and graduated from the University of Minnesota.
During World War II, he proudly served in the Navy as a Lieutenant aboard troop transports in the North Atlantic.
He was employed at Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis, Milwaukee and in Kansas City, Missouri and was the Retail Manager of the Sears store at 15th and Cleveland for many years.
As he retired he loved to travel, play golf and watch the Kansas City Chiefs. He attended St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church. He served as a consultant for Krug Lithographing. He served on the Board of Directors for the Somerset Homes Association.
He was preceded in death by his two wonderful wives. He was married to Jean Shaw Arko for 50 years and to Wanda Williams Arko for 10 years.
He is survived by his children Nancy Arko Somodevilla and spouse Rene of Memphis and Fritz Arko and spouse Maria of San Francisco; stepchildren Dr. Skip Williams of Kansas City and Barbara Williams Kincaid and spouse Sam of Dallas; thirteen grandchildren, Erin Brooke Nowlin of San Francisco, Andrew Nowlin and spouse Whitney of Dallas, Chip Somodevilla and spouse Gina Lambright of Washington,D.C., Todd Somodevilla of Brooklyn, Neil Somodevilla of Fort Worth, Alina Somodevilla of Dallas, Kassandra Arko of San Francisco, Jackie Arko of San Francisco, Thomas Kincaid of Dallas, William Kincaid of Dallas, John Williams and spouse, Dana of Oklahoma city, Dustin Williams and spouse April of Kansas City, Cynthia Williams Hansen and spouse Claus; three great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29 at St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church at Meyer Blvd. and Wornall, KC, MO. A reception will be held after the service to celebrate Fred?s life at 8303 Somerset Drive.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church at 6401 Wornall Terrace, KC, MO 64113 or to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care at 9221 Ward Parkway, KC, MO 64114.
