Elizabeth Margaret Mantel Ira, age 99, died October 1, 2007 at Villa St. Joseph, Overland Park, KS. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 4th at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall, Mission, KS with a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 3rd at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Betty was born January 11, 1908 in Kansas City, KS to John and Bessie Mantel. She was the oldest of five children: brothers, David, Henry, LeRoy, and sister, Mary. Betty attended St. Anthony?s Catholic school in Kansas City, KS. Betty married Owen G. Ira, July 18, 1931. Betty spent many years as a homemaker, mother, excellent cook, and friend to many. Betty and Owen had two children: George Owen and Diane Elizabeth. Betty loved to sing, and was member of the choir for over 20 years at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, KS and also was active in the Women?s Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband and all of her siblings. Survivors include her son, George Ira, of Mukilteo, WA; daughter, Diane Carolan, of Prairie Village, KS; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and twenty-seven great grandchildren who often refer to her as ?Fred? (a nickname coined by the grandchildren). We will all miss her! The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Michael & All Angels Pastoral Care.
