Edward L. Chaney

June 3, 1917 — February 7, 2007

Col. Edward L. (Jack) Chaney, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas died February 7, 2007 at St. Luke?s South Hospital. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 17th at Leawood Presbyterian Church, 2715 W. 83rd Street, Leawood, Kansas. Cremation. Reception to follow service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leawood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
Mr. Chaney was born on June 3, 1917 in Clay Center, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita High School East, and the University of Wichita. On January 14, 1942 Jack married Jean Pettijohn in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Chaney served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained active in the Army Reserves where he attained the rank of Colonel. He became an Army Retiree on June 3, 1977. He held numerous Bell System assignments in several locations, including Wichita, Kansas City, St. Louis and Hawaii during his 40 years of service. The last was that of District Manager (1969-80) in the Traffic Department of SBC in the Kansas City Area. Mr. Chaney was an Ordained Elder of the Leawood Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his daughters, Marilyn Chaney and Carolee Gazzolo. He leaves his wife, Jean P. Chaney of the home; one grandchild Lisa Geer, two great-grandchildren Joey and Karli Geer, son-in-law Jack and Betty Jean Gazzolo, all of Gillette, Wyoming; and one sister Joan Ropp of Billings, Montana.
