Mrs. Dorothea Johnson

December 11, 1915 — August 10, 2013

Dorothea L. Johnson went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2013 at 11:35 am with two of her daughters at her bedside. She had much peace because she knew where she was going. Dorothea was born December 11, 1915 in Kansas City, MO to Otto A. Krueger and Gladys P. Patton Krueger.
Dorothea was a secretary for 42 years at Calvary Lutheran Church, Kansas City, and became a member at Bethany Lutheran in 1994. During her retirement years she spent her time knitting many afghans for family and friends, making as many as 250. She also used this talent making afghans for many babies that were baptized at Bethany as well as booties, hats, slippers, etc. for the needy in the area.
She enjoyed attending church, reading, crossword puzzles, meeting friends for breakfast several times a week, jigsaw puzzles and most of all she enjoyed being with family. Her family was always number one in her life.
Dorothea was baptized in the Christian Church and became a member of the Lutheran Church when she married Elmer Johnson in 1934.
Her survivors include; daughters, Patricia Burnside, Winter Haven, Fl, Barbara Manke, Overland Park, KS, and Marge Carrithers, Winter Haven, FL. Also she is survived by 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Otto A. Krueger, Jr., her husband Elmer Johnson, her youngest daughter, Geraldine Greener, and her grandson, Michael Greener.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am with services beginning at 11 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Rd, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
