Charles Ford

March 19, 1930 — October 22, 2007

Charles (Chuck) L. Ford passed away October 22, 2007 at Shawnee Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 26th at Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church, 3730 Metropolitan, Kansas City, KS 66106. Burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church.

Chuck was a strong, gracious and loving man that worked hard all his life for his family and enjoyed them tremendously especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

Chuck was born on March 19th, 1930 in Osage City, Kansas to Grace Gladys Schueneman and Harry (H.C.) Cliffton Ford. He was an excellent athlete and guided the Osage City Indians in basketball and football. Chuck joined the Navy after high school following in his father?s and brother Harry?s footsteps.

After the Navy Chuck met his life?s love in Osage City and married Donna May Sloop of Osage City, Kansas, daughter of James Merrill Sloop and Dorothy Tindell Sloop, on November 20th, 1953.

Chuck and Donna moved to Kansas City, eventually settling in Turner. Chuck went to school and became an electrician and was a member of I.B.E.W. local union #124 for 53 years and took tremendous pride in his profession. Chuck was a Mason and belonged to the Ben Hur lodge, a member of the American Legion, and was an active member of the Metropolitan Avenue United Methodist Church in Argentine. He was a little league baseball coach for his kids and many others and was able to enjoy watching his grandchildren participate in athletics and other activities during his retirement.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Donna; his Mother Grace (Osage City) and sister Gladys Reid and husband Lewis (Salina); son Charles (Chuck) Ford, Jr. and wife Cindy, Marc and wife Joyce, Jeff and wife Stacy, and daughter, Tammy Reilly, all of Kansas City; 7 grandchildren?Brandon (wife Stacy), Haley (husband Trent) & Jodee, Tracy, Erin and Abigail, and Kelsey; 5 great grandchildren?Isabelle, Kaden & Lydia, and Addison & Jack.

Chuck was surrounded by all of his family during the days preceding his passing. He was preceded in death by his Father, Cleve, and older brother Harry. We are all better people to have known and loved Chuck and to have been loved by him. He will be missed by all.
