Carolyn R. Howard, of Prairie Village, passed away on November 20, 2013.
Mrs. Howard taught physical education at Shawnee Mission East High School for 36 years. Prior to that, she taught at Shawnee Mission North and North Kansas City High School. She served as head tennis coach for 24 years, won 3 state championships and never lost a regional tournament. She served as head swimming coach for 10 years and won 7 state championships. She started the girls' basketball program, coached for 3, and coached track for 1 year. She was the drill team instructor for 16 years and sponsored the cheerleaders for 23 years. She was a division coordinator for 14 years. She was inducted in to the Kansas Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame as an inaugural inductee. Mrs. Howard graduated from William Jewell College and received a Masters Degree from the University of Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Luther A. Foster and Grace Foster. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Hooper of Hickory, NC, a brother, William L. Foster, of Sitka, AK, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22nd, 6-8 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel.
