Edna Carol Welch died peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the age of ninety. Carol was born on September 8, 1932, to Burl and Edna (Whitby) Johnson in Kansas City, MO. She was the younger of two daughters. The family moved to Lawson, MO where Carol graduated from high school in 1950. She attended Emporia State and graduated with a degree in Education.
In 1957 she married Robert J Welch. Bob and Carol raised three children and were married for 43 years until Bob’s death in 2000. In addition to her three children and their spouses, Carol leaves behind 8 grandchildren, and close friends.
Carol taught elementary school in Denver, CO and served as reference librarian in Johnson County. Most of her 25 years of service were spent at the Corinth Branch. After her retirement from the Johnson County Library, she worked at Trailwood Elementary School for ten years as a volunteer, teaching reading to students.
Carol was a loving mother and considerate friend. She loved to travel and to read. She was an avid bird watcher, a dog lover, and a tremendous sports fan. She liked to root for KSU in football and KU in basketball, and she never met a pot roast she couldn’t dry out. Her smile and her laugh were luminous. We will miss her can-do attitude and her sense of humor.
Per her wishes, a private service will be held. Those who wish to, can donate to the Johnson County Library Foundation in her honor. https://www.jocolibraryfoundation.org/donate/
