Mrs. Alice Kulp

Alice Varner Kulp, 87, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away, surrounded by her daughters, on July 4, 2013.
Alice was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on March 5, 1926 to Effie Stout Varner and Harvey Newton Varner. She graduated from Greensboro College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Public School Music. On July 24, 1948, she married William Hill Kulp. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2008, shortly before Bill passed away on August 9, 2008. She was also predeceased by her parents and her only sibling, Harvey Newton Varner, Jr.
In 1950, Alice and Bill moved to Kansas City and then Prairie Village where they reared their three daughters. They moved to Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas in 2001.
Alice had a deep love of family, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a great appreciation for music, art, theater, true friendships and nature. An avid KCPT viewer, she especially loved Antiques Roadshow.
She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and Chapter GD of the PEO Sisterhood for over 50 years. Additionally, she was a member of the Merriam Music Study Club. She worked in the office at Meadowbrook Junior High School, was organist at Merriam Christian Church, a vocal soloist and sang in several choirs and vocal groups.
Alice will be remembered by daughters Pam Kulp Peffer (Charles), Christa Kulp Voorhees (Rox), Susan Kulp Stolle (Calvin), by five grandchildren, Molly Peffer Grant (Luke), Clayton William Peffer (Megan), Dr. Ellen Stolle Satteson (Dr. Adam Satteson), John William Stolle and Michael Calvin Stolle and one great granddaughter, Abigail Susan Grant.
The family deeply appreciates the extended care and compassion of the staff at Lakeview Village Care Center and the assistance of Crossroads Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 8, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church, the Lakeview Village Foundation or Kansas City Public Television - KCPT.
