Martha Hoopman

Martha Edwards Hoopman, age 81, passed away Sept 25, 2009 at home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born Feb 29, 1928 in Kansas City, MO to Isabella and David J. Edwards. She graduated from Bryant Elementary, then, Southwest HS in 1945. She received a BS from Texas Tech University, did graduate work at K.U. and received her Masters from UMKC. In 1947, she married her husband Richard A. Hoopman (of 45 years). They resided in New Mexico and Texas before returning to the K.C. area in 1966. Mrs. Hoopman was a long-time member of Country Club Christian Church and a member of Circle 9. She was a member and president of the Art Study Club, of the Rose Society of KC, A.A.U.W., of the Presidents' and Past President's Club, and member of the Retired Teachers of Johnson County, Albuquerque Petroleum Club, and Woman's Club of West Mesa, Albuquerque. Her greatest interests were family, friends, art and music. Her career in teaching spanned 28 years - both in the classroom and as a Reading Specialist in the Shawnee Mission School District. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Isabella Edwards, her sister Leanna, her husband Richard A. Hoopman. She leaves a son, Richard F. Hoopman and his wife Katharine; their children Erik and Michelle of Albuquerque and Sophia of Bozeman, MT; a daughter Kathleen D. Noll and husband Douglas of Albuquerque; their children Stacie and Trey Ross and Jason and Joy Noll of Gainesville, FL; a brother Col. David J. Edwards and wife Trudy of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Elinor Akins of KC, MO and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends,
No flowers requested, but memorials to Children's Mercy Hospital or Pastoral Care Dept of Country Club Christian Church. Private graveside services for family and close friends to be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery Friday, Oct 2 at 1:30 PM preceded by a Memorial Service at noon the same day in the Country Club Christian Church George Hamilton Combs Memorial Chapel 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri.Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at the website www.dwnewcomers.com.
