Margaret Weinand

July 28, 1923 — September 5, 2016

Margaret Ann (Lawless) Weinand left this life on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the age of 93, leaving behind a large family and community who will miss her presence but celebrate the faithful, full life she led. Margaret Ann was born to Martin and Bridget (Donohue) Lawless on July 28, 1923, the fourth of their seven children. She grew up and spent her entire life in the Kansas City area, attending Central High School and Kansas City Junior College. On September 20, 1947, Margaret Ann married Leonard Anthony Weinand. Margaret Ann and Leonard enjoyed socializing and serving with their community of friends and family. After Leonard passed in 1967, Margaret Ann continued on, raising their five children and providing a full life for them. She was an active member of St. Ann Parish, the St. Teresa’s Academy Mother’s Club and the Rockhurst High School Mother’s Club.  In her professional career, Margaret Ann worked for several years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1986.  Inspired by her strong Catholic faith, Margaret Ann served as a member of the Ladies of Charity and volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She enjoyed cheering on the Chiefs and the Jayhawks. Margaret Ann deeply cherished her many friends, and she took every opportunity to host and gather with them. She was fortunate in friends and family. Margaret Ann was welcomed into heaven by our Lord; her beloved husband Leonard; her brothers Martin (Bud) Lawless, Jr. and Daniel Lawless; her sisters Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Ambrose and Adaline (Ging) Lawless; and her great grandchildren Olivia and Parker Toohey. Her remaining siblings, Martha Jean Lonergan and Thomas F. Lawless will be at a loss without Margaret Ann to tell them what to do! Thirty people are proud to call themselves descendants of this wonderful woman: her children Mary Ann (Mike) Toohey, Catherine (Tony) Kriegshauser, Leonard (Susan) Weinand Jr., Susan (Harold) Lamb and Bernard Weinand; her grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Toohey, Patrick Toohey, Brendon (Carly) Toohey, Brent (Blakely) Kriegshauser, Laura Kriegshauser, Lindsey Kriegshauser, Leonard (Amanda) Weinand III, Christine Weinand, Sheldon (Angela) Lamb, Craig (Caity) Lamb, Bridget (Jono) Bowles, Kevin Weinand and Sarah Weinand; and her great-grandchildren Aiden Toohey, Ella Toohey, Grayson Toohey, Alex Toohey, Claire Kriegshauser, William Kriegshauser, James Kriegshauser, Bryce Weinand, Logan Weinand, Hayleigh Weinand, Caleb Lamb and Harper Lamb. Margaret Ann was a loyal friend and relative, a cherished mother, and a prized grandmother.

Those who wish to join in the celebration of Margaret Ann’s life and share memories are welcome to greet the family in the Chapel at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road in Prairie Village for a visitation on Sunday, September 11th from 4pm – 6pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Monday September 12th at 10am, followed by burial at Mt.
