Margaret Ecord

Margaret Mary “Maggie” Ecord, age 91, of Roeland Park, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center, Overland Park, Kansas.

Born June 15, 1926, in Springfield, Missouri, she was the daughter of William Thomas Cheek and Lois Nancy Stewart Cheek, who preceded her in death. On September 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Benjamin Ecord, who preceded her in death on September 12, 1998.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Stewart Cheek and three sisters, Velderine “Vallie” Vermillion, Bernadine “Bunnie” Branson, and Josephine Vannoy;

Maggie is survived by her four loving children, John W. Ecord of Roeland Park, Kansas, Nancy and Paul Nunes of Lee Summit, Missouri, Teresa Ecord and fiancé Brice Obermueller of Overland Park, Kansas, and Victoria and Trent McCann of Lenexa, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Jack, Patrick, Christopher, and Abigail Ecord, Max, Derek, Maria, and Janine Nunes, and  Jacob and Paige McCann; one brother, Tom Cheek and wife Carol of The Woodlands, Texas; one sister-in-law Jean J. Hogan of Denver, Colorado; Martha Ecord of Overland Park, Kansas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maggie attended Southwest Missouri State College in Spingfield, Missouri, and was a supervisor for Southwestern Bell before leaving the workforce to enjoy a rich and rewarding family life. She cherished her children and grandchildren, was a devout member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed gardening. Maggie was fun loving and young at heart and Cheek to her mother’s name.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. Maggie’s children welcome family and friends to join them in celebrating the life of their beloved mother at the Ecord family home (3606 W. 47th Place, Roeland Park, Kansas) immediately following Monday’s services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Center of Overland Park, Kansas.
