John Wickstrom

June 16, 1934 — October 20, 2017

John J. Wickstrom, 83, Overland Park, KS passed away Oct. 20, 2017. Visitation will be at 9:30am and service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W 71st St, Overland Park, KS 66204, with a luncheon immediately  following at the St. Dionysius Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, KS. Internment Leavenworth National Cemetery. John was born June 16, 1934 in Hot Springs, SD.  He graduated from Edgemont High, and ran track and played basketball while attending Black Hills State College, and the University of South Dakota, where he graduated with a degree in accounting.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Mauna Loa. He worked as an accountant and auditor for Sheraton, Harris Kerr Forster, The U.S. Departments of Agriculture, and Housing and Urban Development, where he retired in Kansas City as Regional Director of Accounting.  Most of all he loved his grandchildren and family. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Lucille, his brothers Graydon, Leonard (Margaret), Harold (Lavonna) and sister Olga (Don). He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lorraine, of the home; daughter Cynthia Wickstrom, Rapid City, SD; son John Jr., and wife Betsy, Prairie Village, KS; son Kevin, Independence, MO; son Brian and wife Celina, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Andrea, Elena, Vincent, David Grant, John Christian, Bricelle, and James Preston;  as well as many nieces and nephews.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Global Birthing Home Foundation globalbirthinghomefoundation.org
