Janice Mae Mary Meinke Lewis, 78, of Shawnee, KS, passed away August 24th, 2010 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center from natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 W. 62nd St., Mission, KS. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday August 27th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Johnson County Mental Health. Mrs. Lewis was born June 23, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN, lived in Fargo North Dakota, and ultimately moved to Kansas City her Senior year of high school. Her father bowled in the same league as her future husband, where they met and were married at Redemptorist Church September 18, 1954. Janice and Jerry lived in Prairie Village, Kansas where she raised 4 children as a stay at home mom. She was active in PTA, a Pinochle group, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1950. She enjoyed having lunch with her girlfriends and was an avid crossword puzzler. She loved watching soap operas, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and any other game show. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Harriet Meinke. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Jerry Lewis, daughter Julie Lewis, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Roxanne Lewis, son Jim Lewis, daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Bill Connelly, grandchildren Madison Lewis Clark, and Parker, Molly and Lucy Connelly, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Don Littell.
